Patricia Kurtz, MD
Dr. Kurtz graduated with honors from Purdue University in 1973 and earned her MD degree at the University of Chicago in 1977. She completed her residency program in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital before joining the University of Chicago faculty in 1980. Dr. Kurtz co-directed the Physical Diagnosis course in the 1980s before being named Co-director of the Medicine Clerkship in 1986. As the clerkship co-director for nearly twenty years, Dr. Kurtz made a significant and lasting impact on the Pritzker School of Medicine. Among her many contributions, in 1994 Dr. Kurtz created the Internal Medicine Ambulatory Care Rotation and in 2000 she assisted in the development of the Talking Medicine elective, a section which teaches humanism in medicine during the medicine clerkship. Dr. Kurtz also started the Ambulatory Care Clinical Conference (PCG) in 1994 and the Senior Student Continuity Clinic in 2005. She currently serves as the director of both programs.
In recognition of her outstanding teaching skills, Dr. Kurtz was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 1995 and was a faculty honoree in the Pritzker School of Medicine Class Composite picture in 1999. In addition to her teaching activities, Dr. Kurtz served as a member of the Promotions Committee at the Pritzker School of Medicine for nineteen years and a member of the Clinical Curriculum Review Committee for ten. She has served as faculty advisor and mentor for countless students over the years.
