Dr. Robert Hoover to Present Bowman Society Lecture

Dr. Robert Hoover will present the next Bowman Society lecture on Thursday, July 19 at 5:30pm at the University of Chicago Quadrangle Club.
Dr. Hoover is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Nephrology and Associate Vice-Chair of Diversity for the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Department of Medicine’s Diversity Committee.
His current research focuses on the molecular physiology of regulation of the thiazide-sensitive sodium chloride cotransporter (NCC), the site of action for one of the most commonly prescribed classes of anti-hypertensive medications.
Dr. Hoover received his BS in Chemistry from Howard University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his medical degree at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Emory University. Dr. Hoover received his subspecialty training in Nephrology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He joined the faculty at Vanderbilt prior to moving to a faculty position at Yale University Medical School. During this time he was named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Minority Medical Faculty Development Program Scholar. Dr. Hoover joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 2002.
The Bowman Society lectures highlight medical research issues and topics that are important to the health care of minority communities. Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, The Bowman Society Lecture Series commenced in 2005 through the generous support of Dr. James E. Bowman, Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine, and the Biological Sciences Division's first tenured African-American Professor.
