Pritzker School of Medicine Launches Two New Pipeline Programs for Undergraduate Students
January 15, 2007 — The Pritzker School of Medicine Office of Admissions and the Office of Multicultural Affairs is launching two new pipeline programs for undergraduate students: Pritzker School of Medicine Experience in Research (PSOMER) and Chicago Academic Medicine Program (CAMP).
Both programs are part of an ongoing series of initiatives to increase diversity in medicine and encourage greater cultural competency among physicians. While any undergraduate student may apply to these programs they are specifically designed to target undergraduate students with diverse backgrounds.
Pritzker School of Medicine Experience in Research
PSOMER is an eight week, residential research program for rising juniors and seniors. Eight to ten students will be selected to conduct research with members of the University of Chicago faculty. These projects will range from bench to clinical projects and participants will present their work at the end of the program.PSOMER also incorporates professional and educational seminars, advising sessions with admissions officers, and service and social outings with medical students.The stipend is $5,400.
Chicago Academic Medicine Program
CAMP is a six week, non-residential, tuition-free mini-medical school for up to twenty-five rising freshmen, sophomores or juniors which focuses on group learning, team building, and peer support within a non-credit, organ based physiology curriculum.Up to twenty-five applicants will be selected. CAMP also provides professional and educational seminars, advising sessions with admissions officers, physician shadowing, and social outings with medical students. The stipend is $800.
