Meet the 2008–2009 Pritzker Chiefs
Each fall Dr. Holly J. Humphrey, Dean for Medical Education, turns over the Dean's Corner to the Pritzker Chiefs. Dr. Humphrey's regular column will appear in the Winter 2009 issue.
Dear Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff:
Karen Bauer, MS4 and Erica Aronson, MS4: Your 2008–2009 Pritzker Chiefs
Hello and welcome back to another exciting and fun filled year at Pritzker! To those of you who recently joined us (i.e. Class of 2012), welcome to the family! We are looking forward to meeting you.
We are excited and honored to serve as your Pritzker Chiefs. You may be wondering, “What exactly is a Pritzker Chief?” The role of Pritzker Chief is very much like that of a chief resident in that we serve as liaisons between the student body and the administration, plan community building activities, and, most importantly, we hope to serve as mentors to the entire student body. We are available to our fellow students to assist them in any way we can.
This brings us to our theme for the year: mentorship. Through activities such as society field day, interclass breakfasts and lunches, and other new initiatives, we hope to bring all four classes together. We hope the first and second years can learn from the experiences of the upperclassmen in order to make a smooth transition from the pre-clinical to the clinical years.
We are excited to launch new opportunities for students to learn from each other including the morning report class that will begin this spring. Our predecessors laid the foundation for this course in which fourth years discuss a variety of cases they have seen over their third and fourth years. We hope interest in this course will lead to the creation of a school-wide morning report.
We are excited to talk to you and hear all of your bright ideas for other new initiatives because we, as a community, are key in the continued success and improvement of Pritzker. We hope you will all feel comfortable coming to us to discuss any matter on your mind. Please see us as your sounding boards and consultants. We look forward to meeting all of you soon!
