Dean’s Corner
Meet the 2009-2010 Pritzker Chiefs
Each fall, Dr. Holly J. Humphrey, Dean for Medical Education turns over the Dean’s Corner to the Pritzker Chiefs. Pritzker Chiefs are selected each spring by the rising fourth-year class to serve as Class Presidents and school leaders. Dr. Humphrey’s regular column will appear in the Winter 2010 issue.
Dear Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff,
Chelsea Dorsey, MS4
Class of 2013, congratulations, you made it, welcome to the show. We’re thrilled to count you among the Pritzker family. To all returning students, it’s great to see everyone back on campus, settling into the rhythm of a new year.
We are delighted to have this opportunity to kick off the fall quarter at Pritzker. The Pritzker Chiefs serve as liaisons between the student body and the administration and aim to be both a sounding board for concerns and a catalyst for mentoring and social activities throughout the school.
Cameron Nienaber, MS4
Before highlighting some of our own projects, we want to point the spotlight where it belongs - on our remarkable classmates. One of our main goals this year is to collaborate with the already robust mentoring and social efforts of the Class of 2010. From the successful MedRes program to the new Peer Mentorship Program at Pritzker, there is an ever strengthening network of support guiding students from day one of medical school to the envelope-ripping frenzy of Match Day. Complementing this academic focus is the energetic Social Rounds Crew who are already working hard to ensure that "Friday at 5" becomes this year’s mantra for breaking down interclass social barriers.
Along with building upon the enthusiasm of the fourth-year class, we are fortunate to have inherited a strong logistical framework from prior Pritzker Chiefs. We will join Dr. Humphrey in leading the popular Pritzker Morning Report class and will continue to weave interclass mentoring activities throughout the academic year.
Mac Walter, MS4
In addition to focusing on existing programs, this year marks the arrival of a new avenue for mentorship as the University embarks on its partnership with NorthShore University HealthSystem. We have already instituted a monthly Chief-hosted pizza party in an effort to galvanize a sense of community away from the U of C campus.
We are also cooking up several Chief-sponsored social nights along with a few academic and service-minded projects. Needless to say, we are excited for the year and will do everything we can to ensure that next year’s Pritzker Pulse Chiefs' column begins, "2009-2010, that is going to be tough to top."
Cheers,
Cameron, Chelsea, and Mac
