MeSH Admissions Timeline

Applicants to the MD-PhD program in the Medicine in the Social Sciences and Humanities (MeSH) program must apply for admission and financial aid to both the Pritzker School of Medicine and to the PhD program of their choice. Students must be accepted to both programs to be eligible for MeSH funding. MeSH applicants may not apply to the MSTP program.

Below are the steps and deadlines for completing the Pritzker School of Medicine Application. Interested applicants should contact their respective PhD program for information about that program's specific application procedures. Please note that the majority of PhD programs in the Humanities and Social Sciences require that students take the GRE in addition to the MCAT.

1. AMCAS Application

The Pritzker School of Medicine utilizes the online American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). When completing the AMCAS application, MeSH applicants should 1) select the "Combined Medical Degree/PhD " program type and 2) select "Other" under combined degree area(s). MD-PhD applicants have to fill out two additional AMCAS essays 1) Stating their reasons for wishing to pursue the combined MD/PhD and 2) Listing significant research experience.

Applicants interested in the M.D./Ph.D. Program in Medicine, the Social Sciences and Aging program should specify their interest in aging in the AMCAS essays.

2. Pritzker Supplemental Application

Every student who submits an application through AMCAS will receive a Pritzker School of Medicine Supplemental Application by email. When completing this application, MeSH applicants should select the MeSH application type at the beginning of the application and fill out the corresponding MeSH application. Please note that this form will ask the applicant to specify one or more University of Chicago PhD programs to which the applicant is applying. In order to be considered for the December 8th Interview Day, your application should be completed by November 3, 2008. All applications must completed by 11:59:59 CST, December 1, 2008.

3. Postmark Letters of Recommendation

As an MD-PhD applicant, you should be prepared with six letters of recommendation; 3 letters in support of your MD degree application, and 3 additional letters supporting your PhD application. Please mail an original copy of the letters in support of your PhD application to the MeSH program.
