MSTP Admissions Timeline
Applicants to the Medical Scientist Training Program apply through the regular Pritzker School of Medicine admissions process. Upon receiving the Pritzker Supplemental Application, MSTP applicants will have the option of applying "MSTP ONLY" or "MSTP>MD." Those applicants who select "MSTP ONLY" will be screened by the MSTP Committee on Admissions. That Committee decision is a final decision, and applicants who are unsuccessful in their process will not be forwarded to the MD Committee on Admissions for review.
Applicants selecting the "MSTP>MD" option will screened by two committees, the MSTP Committee on Admissions and the MD Admissions Committee. If applicants are reviewed favorably by the MD program, they will be forwarded to the MSTP Committee on Admissions for their consideration. Based on the MSTP decision at that point, the applicant will be invited to interview either for the MD program only, or for the MST program. If an "MSTP>MD" applicant is not reviewed favorably by the MD Committee on Admissions, their application will not be forwarded to the MSTP Committee on Admissions for review. Interest and potential in medical science and in basic research are important criteria for selection by the MSTP Admissions Committee.
Note: Accepted MSTP trainees apply to the PhD programs in the Biological Sciences during their first two years of medical school.
MSTP interviews take place overnight Wednesday-Friday from January-March. Applicants who are not chosen for an MSTP interview, may still be invited to interview for the MD program. MSTP applicants cannot apply for the MeSH program.
