Geographical Medicine Scholars Program
Out-of-Country Experience
The 2008 GMSP Out-of-Country Experience will take place in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, South India in collaboration with MediCiti Immunology and Infectious Disease Research Institute and the Sivananda Rehabilitation Home. GMSP Scholars will rotate through the hospital's emergency room and ICU as well as through a Fever Hospital, Leper Colony, and two Chest hospitals. GMSP scholars will also participate in a rural community medicine program, and peri-natal care program.

Application Procedure & Requirements
Housestaff and students interested in participating in the Out-of-Country Experience must complete an application and submit via email by 5:00pm on Saturday, March 1st. Please email completed applications to Chrissy Babcock.
The application will consist of an updated CV and a two-page essay answering the question, How will this international experience enhance your future career in medicine? All applicants will complete a brief 10 minute interview with GMSP co-directors on Wednesday, March 5th after the GMSP didactic lecture.
Selection criteria will be based on:
- application
- interview
- attendance at GMSP didactic lecture
- shadowing in the emergency department (two experiences recommended)
- shadowing in the infectious disease travel clinic (one experience recommended)
For GMSP participants interested in shadowing in the emergency department, please contact Chrissy Babcock to schedule. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; therefore, any time that is convenient for applicants can be arranged.
For GMSP participants interested in shadowing in the infectious disease travel clinic, please contact Keren Hahn to schedule. The travel clinic is open Monday mornings and Tuesday afternoons for shadowing experiences.
