Summer Research Program
Fact Sheet
Application
Students interested in participating in the Summer Research Program must apply online between January 7-February 18, 2008. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by February 26, 2008.
The Pritzker Steering Committee funds feasible student research projects in which the students test a well-defined and scientifically rigorous hypothesis. Research proposals may be rejected or require substantial revision prior to acceptance. Students should access the Summer Research Project Guide to look for interested faculty mentors.
Research Credit
Accepted students must sign up for a research elective during Spring quarter for a minimum of 50 units.
Stipends & Funding
Each student receives a minimum stipend of $4,000. Students whose research projects qualify for NIH funding will receive funding at the NIH approved level. Payments are made in two increments over the eleven week period. In order to receive their stipend check, students must meet the following benchmarks:
- Stipend 1 (mid-July) - Submit research reference, hypothesis, and introduction
- Stipend 2 (late August) - Submit final research report
The Summer Research program has four funding sources: the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK); the Minority Summer Research Grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the Pritzker School of Medicine. All research mentors are required to contribute $400 in non-federal funds.
