Overview
An expanding wealth of medical information is now available upon which to base clinical decisions. Knowing how to incorporate this information into clinical practice is a necessary skill for clinicians. In this highly interactive selective, students will learn the core concepts of evidence based clinical practice through the exploration and use of a broad array of information resources such as electronic texts, Medline, expert systems, and guidelines. By learning these techniques, students will learn many of the key concepts for life long learning so they will be able to answer clinical questions rapidly using the most relevant and up-to-date medical information available. Please note that this selective, as well as the selective, Critical Appraisal of Landmark Medical Literature, address the broad topic of evidence based medicine. These courses address quite different aspects of the practice of evidence based medicine and are therefore complementary. There is little overlap between the courses.
Objectives
Learn how to formulate searchable queries from clinical dilemmas. Understand how to select, analyze, and apply results from the most relevant resources.
Evaluation
Attendance, participation, and by instructor review of group collaborative projects.
