Overview

In this course, students will use a multidisciplinary approach to learn about common women's health issues. Students will participate in didactic case-based learning for two hours daily, and will spend time approximately 3-4 days per week in a variety of clinical settings devoted to women's health. Sample topics to be covered in the case-based sessions include contraception, osteoporosis, hormone replacement therapy, evaluation of breast masses and galactorrhea, ischemic heart disease in women, anorexia/bulimia, amenorrhea, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, common medical issues in pregnancy, urinary incontinence, depression/anxiety, and preventive care and screening. Clinical sessions will be spent in Womancare, the Breast Surgery Clinic, Osteoporosis Clinic, Urogynecology Clinic, Mammography, and Bone Densitometry, to name a few. This elective is particularly well- suited to those planning a career in Primary Care, Family Practice, or Obstetrics-Gynecology.
