Overview

Clinical and laboratory experience in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The student will have an opportunity to observe and participate in the clinical evaluation of patients with several different causes of infertility and a variety of endocrinopathies. Daily meeting with an team of physicians, nurses and laboratory personnel provide a basic understanding of the care provided to this patient population. Ample time is provided for a reading assignment and manuscript preparation to enhance the students experience and provide an opportunity to become more knowledgeable in a specific area of interest and to perfect research techniques and writing scientific skills.

Objectives

Observe a variety of clinical disorders associated with infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss and endocrinopathies affecting women. Participate in the care of surgical patients undergoing in/out patient procedures. Observe and participate and gain an understanding of ancillary procedures required to evaluate patients (e.g., ultrasound, hysterosalpingograms, etc.). Learn basic techniques of a literature search and manuscript preparation. Learn basic principles of preparation and presentation of a topic to a small group for discussion.

Evaluation

Direct observation and commentary of performance and student behavior. Student will be required to present at one of the weekly section meetings. Student will be required to prepare a research paper (e.g. a review article) on a topic of interest.
