Overview

This elective introduces students to applications of the internet to psychiatry. Students learn about Medline, mailing lists, newsgroups, and the World-Wide Web. They choose topics of interest and research them both on the internet and in the library. Then, making the transition from consumer to a provider of internet information, they turn their findings into web pages that will serve as resources for others. Ethical and legal issues are also addressed.

Objectives

To learn about Medline, mailing lists, newsgroups, and the World-Wide Web. To learn how to create a web page. To apply both of the above to a particular topic of interest. To learn about ethical and legal issues relevant to applications of the internet to medicine.

Evaluation

Attendance, participation, performance, and web page project.
