Overview
This course provides an overview of the pathophysiology and clinical care of the wide spectrum of illness and injury seen in the practice of emergency medicine. In addition to the Tuesday/Thursday lecture schedule, laboratory sessions providing experience in suturing, intubation, and immobilization are scheduled. Students are also required to spend observation time in the emergency department.
Objectives
Students will learn to integrate the clinical presentation of patients with the basic pathophysiology of a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions. Students will learn the basics of wound management/suturing, as well as the basics of airway control/intubation.
Evaluation
Evaluation will be based on attendance and a final examination.
