Students electing this rotation will participate in clinical conferences and rounds involving ethical issues in obstetrics and gynecology. Areas to be considered include high risk obstetrics, fertility curtailment, infertility treatment, and terminal cancer. Students will meet each week with Dr. Mahowald to identify and discuss ethical issues raised by the case presented at rounds and conferences. They will also participate in ethics consultations through the Center for Clinical Medical Ethics. On the basis of this, expect to become familiar with some of the principal articles and books in the field.
