Overview

Students will share in the evaluation and treatment of patients, including performing procedures. Students attend formal conferences with residents that cover a range of emergency medicine topics. Rotations are scheduled for the entire calendar month, starting on the 1st weekday of each month. There is no allowance for breaks between quarters in March. Another break time may be elected by nature of the flexible Fourth year year. Six weeks prior the start of the rotation, students will receive information regarding time and location of the orientation.  Orientation attendance is mandatory.

Objectives

Students will evaluate and care for patients with a wide variety of medical/surgical conditions. Students will also learn procedural skills such as suturing, lumbar puncture, and arthrocentesis. Students can elect to ride along on the ambulance and/or helicopter. Students will also be required to attend weekly conferences. Students will be required to do a brief presentation for the group regarding an interesting/unusual case they saw during their rotation. Presentation should be 5-10 minutes to be presented to the group at the end of the rotation.

Evaluation

Clinical performance and final examination.
